They work with a range of Terrapin artists including writers, puppet-makers and directors to shape these stories into a larger narrative, and bring it to life with shadow puppetry techniques. The project culminates in a performance of the new work for the original interviewees, their families and other community members, drawing together generations in shared storytelling.

In practice, this project is flexible and adapts to its setting. It can be delivered over a long period - weekly engagements over several months - or in a fast and furious week. As artists, we’ve learned that the process is more important than the outcome, and that intricate puppets can be abandoned in favour of bodies, light and voices. We have been fortunate to be invited into precious and vulnerable spaces, using trauma-informed practices to ensure the work is supportive, meaningful and safe.
